About Me
Most of us leave school able to name the parts of a plant, but with no idea how compound interest works, what pension tax relief actually does, or why a financed car loses a chunk of its value just as you finish the paperwork. That gap isn't your fault. It is, however, expensive.
So this is my attempt at closing a bit of it. I write about all things finance: ISAs, pensions, why leverage tends to end in tears, what a currency intervention on the other side of the world means for your money, and the ordinary decisions: cars, mortgages, direct debits.
I'm not an expert, and I've made my share of expensive mistakes. My stock picks have a remarkable talent for peaking the week I buy in. I'm working this out properly as I go and writing it down in plain English as I do. No jargon, no hot tips, no pretending there's a shortcut that everyone else has missed, and certainly NO SELLING COURSES.
If something here makes one financial decision slightly less baffling, that'll do.
Not Financial Advice
Everything here is general information and my own opinion. It is not personalised financial advice, and it never will be — I am not a regulated financial adviser, and nothing on this site is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.
That distinction matters. Real advice takes account of your income, your debts, your goals, your tax position and how much risk you can genuinely live with. I know none of those things about you. So nothing written here is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything.
Posts aren't updated as things change. Always check the current position before acting on anything you read here.
Links to other sites, and articles featured here from other writers, are shared because I found them worth reading. They reflect their authors' own views rather than mine, and are not an endorsement.
If you're making a decision that genuinely matters, speak to a regulated financial adviser. You can check whether someone is authorised on the FCA register.
